Camping skills in the Forest

The Children of Benachie Playgroup seized a window of opportunity this morning, and enjoyed a visit to the woods in between blizzards and hail.

Boys woods shelterWrapped up warm in our hats, gloves, and Benachie waterproofs, our intrepid young adventurers busied themselves making shelters in the woods using branches, tarpaulin, string and pegs.

We needn’t have worried about food either, as the children whipped up some non-edible culinary delights in our temporary mud kitchen…. clearly taking inspiration from MasterChef with their inventions!Woods mud kitchen

There was still a wintry chill in the air, so we huddled around the campfire, sitting on logs close together to keep warm.  We even managed a sing-song!

Megan woods shelterWe had such a fantastic morning learning outdoor skills, keeping safe around fire, and more importantly, having a mud-packed morning of fun!

Thanks to all our parents, grandparents, aunties and helpers, as well as our great friend, Karen helping to keep us safe.  We can’t wait for the next adventure to the woods!
